While we where stuck in the alpines, there where many surprising things we learned. In the winter the winds are very harsh and nothing much can be heard or seen because of them and the snow fall. Finding food during the winter was very hard, there are only some animals and very few nuts. When spring came, there were loads of berries and many wild potatoes to eat. The higher up the mountains we would go the air would get thinner and colder. Also, farther up a mountain we could observe the clouds and see very far below us, when it wasn't snowing. Something that crossed our minds was the thought of if other animals can hear each other over the extreme winds. It was extremely difficult to travel back and forth between the mountains due to high winds, ice, and heavy snow, the only option was to set up shelter in a cave, although we had to worry animals hibernating in the cave and if there was any surrounding food sources, since it is very scarce. We were also unable to travel very high up the mountains due to the air thinning so it was difficult to breath. There were no surrounding communities so our only option for communication would have been to find a radio, yet due to an avalanche caused by the plane crash we were unable to find much of anything that was not broken. To conclude life in the mountains was very difficult due to the climate, altitude of the mountains, scarcity of food, and lack of communication.
